The King of Fighters: The Rugal Saga cover
The Rugal Team also called Rugal Arc or Arc 0 is a rare classification for the franchise's first game: The King of Fighters '94.
Because Orochi's story truly begins in The King of Fighters '95, main players consider KOF '94 to be a game outside of the Orochi Saga and have therefore fit it into its own saga even though it is just a single game.
Still, this classification is unusual and often ignored by SNK itself, as KOF '94 is found in the Orochi Saga collection: The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga.
This confusion probably exists due to the fact that KOF '95 is a bridge linking both KOF '94 and KOF '96, since it is a completely straightforward continuation of '94 with the return of antagonist Rugal Bernstein and at the same time the introduction to myth, Orochi, leaving players in a difficult dilemma.
