The King of Fighters: Maximum Impact Saga cover
The Maximum Impact Saga is a non-canonical game series released for PlayStation 2 and had its fourth and fifth game cancelled, which would be the end of the arc story.
The saga's first game, KOF: Maximum Impact, was released on August 12, 2004 focusing on brothers Alba Meira and Soiree Meira. The third game in the saga, KOF: Maximum Impact Regulation "A", is a Dream Match released before the end of the saga.
The saga had two proposals: Test audience reaction with a transition to the 3D graphic and gain time in developing new Sprites for the next major game in the series. But due to the public's negative reaction to this saga and the departure of Falcoon, director of the saga, who probably took the copyright of the exclusive characters, the last two games were cancelled leaving the saga incomplete.
The saga also features a four episode anime called The King of Fighters: Another Day, which takes place between the first two games. And it's by far the only anime in the entire franchise.
In theory the saga takes place chronologically between The King of Fighters XI and The King of Fighters XIII.
Story[]
Trying to get back to the origins of Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, the story focuses on South Town, home to the first King of Fighters tournaments. At this time, Addes is the most powerful gang in the city, where its leader is a mysterious man named Fate, who was considered a modern verion of Robin Hood for the poor and opreessed, since making South Town go through a quiet afterline by Geese Howard. He himself had adopted two twin brothers, Alba and Soiree Meira, and trained them to be successors of his legacy.
Six months before the events of the first game, Fate is killed by Duke, the leader of the newly arrived gang Mephistopheles. Duke then exploits the poor to serve his own thirst for power.
Later, Mephistopheles starts a King of Fighters tournament, with the venue being all of Southtown. Alba and Soiree then enter the tournament to defeat Duke.
Later the true nature of the enemies and the Meira brothers is revealed, and another enemy named Jivatma abducts Soiree leaving his whereabouts unknown to this day.
The story never ended due to the cancellation of the last games.
