The Dream Matches are a small series of games in the saga of The King of Fighters who are treated improved versions of some existing games in the same series.
Description[]
These games are separate editions of the storyline in which almost all the characters in the series participate (even those who had died in previous versions) participate. Most of these games include new characters in the game's plot.
Games[]
- The King of Fighters '94: First Dream Match of SNK's characters and most are fighters created for the game. It can be considered as the first part of the Rugal Saga.
- The King of Fighters '94 Rebout - It is the first Dream Match that improved a lot in its graphics, being as part of the 10th anniversary of KOF. It was released in 2004. Unlike its predecessor, you can choose any player and Rugal and Saisyu will appear as bosses.
- The King of Fighters '98: Dream Match Never Ends(Japan)/ The Slugfest (North America)- The first Dream Match.
- The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999: It is the improved version of KOF '98 being exclusive to Dreamcast. It was launched in 1999.
- The King of Fighters 2002: The second Dream Match. With 5 exclusive characters for Xbox, Dreamcast and PlayStation 2. A new fighter is introduced which is Kusanagi, who is revealed to be a clone of Kyo Kusanagi created by Chizuru Kagura in the plot of KOF 2003.
- The King of Fighters Neowave - Second game with graphical improvements like their previous game, this time it is an improved KOF 2002. The boss is Geese Howard from the Art of Fighting 2 version, with re-designed sprites. This game was the first for Atomiswave, being that this was released to start the new board leaving Playmore behind.
- KOF: Maximum Impact Regulation "A" - A dream match composed of characters already appeared from the Maximum Impact Saga, most of them are new and others are from SNK games, for example, Makoto Mizoguchi from Fighter's History Dynamite, Hanzo Hattori from Samurai Shodown among others. It was released in 2007.
- The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match - First remake of The King of Fighters '98. It was released in mid 2008
- The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match - Second remake of The King of Fighters 2002. A new fighter is introduced which is Nameless as a replacement for K9999, due to Copyright issues. It was released since early 2009. It has two versions Original and Tougeki Edition, the latter was released in 2010.
- The King of Fighters XII - The third Dream Match also considered Tie-in and a test version of the thirteenth instalment. Here he has no final boss other than Ash Crimson. Launched since mid 2009.
- The King of Fighters-i - Fourth dream match this time as a portable game for mobile phones. Here he does not have any final boss but Ash Crimson and there are only 5 battles until reaching the boss.
- The King of Fighters '98: Final Edition - It is another pre-enhanced version of KOF '98 exclusive for Xbox 360. Released in 2012
- The Rhythm of Fighters: The first Android minigame, similar to Capcom's Super Puzzle Fighter. Except that in this one it is done with different commands following the rhythm of the song. It was released in 2014. An interesting fact is the presence of Nakoruru who had already appeared in KOF '95 of the version for Game Boy and KOF 2000 as a striker character

- Despite being Non-Canon games, many fans may call some games exclusive parts like the "Omega Rugal Saga", after what happened to him at the KOF '95 tournament.
- The first to be more playable was '98 and it followed with KOF 2002.
- The KOF '98 Dream Match left a great mark for its graphics, its semi-relevance to the Orochi saga and the relationship between enemy or allied characters, as well as becoming the best rated KOF between 1994 and 2000 by fans. It is even the only one with more game updates.
